Tems – Love Me JeJe

Tems is continuing to tease the release of her debut album, Born in the Wild – coming this May – with the release of her latest single, “Love Me JeJe.” The club-ready R&B track is about wanting a lover that’ll give you the kind of loving your body wants. While it’s entirely written and produced by the Nigerian artist Guiltybeatz, it is said to reference a 1997 track of the same name by another Nigerian artist Seyi Sodimu.

Sodimu shared his gratitude for the tribute on Instagram, writing, “This made my day. The beautiful thing about music is that it transcends generations and connects us through time. Shout-out to Tems and her team, and congrats on a wonderful Coachella performance.”

Tems first unveiled the Afro-pop-influenced song during her highly praised Coachella set, where she notably brought out Wizkid and Justin Bieber during weekend one for a special performance of “Essence” and “Wait For You.” This year marked her first performance at the music festival, where she took the stage on two different occasions across two weekends. Her breezy vocals and soft-dance sequence earned Billboard’s praise, as they elevated her for her “striking set… backed by a gorgeous outdoor setting on the stage that perfectly matched her warm, powerful voice.”

Opening the song “Love Me JeJe,” she sings about needing a lover who can “Love me in and out, unfailingly.” When that happens, she promises to reciprocate this love by being “down” and “on your wave.”

If not you, then I don’t wanna know, I don’t want no story / Day and night, it’s unconditional, got mе living softly / Love me JeJe, love me tender,” Tems sings in the guitar-flecked groove, her pleasing voice lending the song an ethereal air.

Even though “Love Me JeJe” hasn’t been accompanied by a music video, the visualizer sees her dancing to the song with her friends at what seems to be a club. They’re holding up red cups and just grooving to the song’s soft beats.

Last month, the Oscar-nominated artist Tems teamed up with Tyla for “No. 1,” which appears on the latter’s eponymous debut album. Apart from her Coachella debut, the star has this summer lined up with festival performances, including a festival gig in the Netherlands and an appearance at the famed Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July.

The singer-songwriter and record producer thanked the people she made the song with on X, writing, “Shoutout to my friends Yvonne and Dunsin that I made this song with on a lit night out!
