James Arthur & Kelly Clarkson – From The Jump

James Arthur truly found the perfect voice to complement his heart-wrenching song “From The Jump” with Kelly Clarkson. The song originally served as the fourth official release from his album Bitter Sweet Love. Released earlier this year, Bitter Sweet Love reached the top of the UK’s official album chart, becoming his second album to reach the summit.

Said to be the anthem for “all the incurable lovers out there,” the song packs emotional depth, a masterful melody, and now the voices of two artists who are well-versed in singing sad songs in a way that grip and twists the heart.

Right from the jump / I was addicted, I was hooked on you / Like July is to the Sun,” Arthur kicks off singing, slow and steady, like he wasn’t in a rush to get his message out. “You’re the one that I prayed for all my life / And then you arrived / It’s amazing how the time flies by / Do you remember, my baby?”

When Clarkson jumps in at the second verse, she complements Arthur’s heavier and moodier voice with her soft-sounding sweet voice, singing, “I know this sounds cliché / But I was in love with you from the first sight / Like a moth drawn to a flame.”

Speaking on the collaboration, Arthur says, “When I heard Kelly’s vocals on this, my mind was blown. What a great honor to have someone of her caliber feature on one of my favorite songs from this body of work. I’m so excited for the fans to hear it.”

Clarkson adds: “James has such an incredible voice, so I was stoked when he sent me this song to jump on with him. I love singing with artists who inspire me and vocalists I adore! That’s my favorite kind of duet partner. “From The Jump” is such a cool song. It has this singer/songwriter vibe but with these pop elements of catchiness that I really dig. The melody is beautiful, and the writing is so great that I was very excited to sing on it with him!”

For Arthur, getting to duet with Clarkson on a song is kind of like a full-circle moment, since he performed a cover of Clarkson’s song “Stronger” while competing on The X Factor UK back in 2012. He did go on to win the competition show that season.

These days, you can find him making people cry with his sad songs, love songs, inspirational songs, and every other song in between.
