English pop singer Jess Glynne released her brand new single, “Friend of Mine,” following the success of her previous chart-toppers, such as “My Love,” “I’ll Be There,” and “Hold My Hand.” With honest, raw vocals over a heavy drum and bass beat, she draws you into this story of accepting your own wrongs after a relationship ends and hoping that the other person will still want to be your friend and stay in your life.
“I hope you’re doing alright / ‘Cause I know what it feels like / Can’t take back what I did yesterday / That one time was my bad, my mistake / Hold my hands up, I was wrong.”
The track was co-written by Glynne, Jin Jin, DJ Sub Focus, and Ollie Green. It comes after Glynne took a few years of break from her musical career. She wanted to step out of the spotlight and focus on growing and experiencing all that life had to offer. However, she’s now back with new experiences to share with her fans. Over the years, she has amassed 4 billion global career streams, 7 UK No. 1 singles, two UK platinum albums, 1 Grammy award, 11 platinum singles, and much more.
On the track, Glynne says, “This song is about honesty and forgiveness. All friendships and relationships have their ups and downs. Life isn’t perfect. Hopefully, people can hear their own stories in the lyrics and it brings them hope. I wrote ‘Friend of Mine’ with one of my closest friends and collaborators, Jin Jin. We have worked together so much over the years but this was a real moment for us. It was my first time working with Sub Focus and Ollie Green, and it felt really special walking into a room with such open, safe souls.”
This next chapter of Glynne’s career began after she switched labels and management. She has also relocated to Los Angeles, CA where she has been working toward a different style and sound with new producers who have worked with artists like Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, Sia, Adele, and more. As she’s gearing up for the next album, Glynne teases, “It’s a pop record – I’m a pop girl. But there’s a lot of variety. The sound of the record is raw, honest, and vulnerable.”
The singer will also be performing a series of live outdoor shows across the UK next summer. Venues will include Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Crystal Palace Bowl, Lincoln Castle, and many more. Fans can begin purchasing tickets this Wednesday, October 25th, during pre-sale. General on-sale begins on Friday, October 27th.
