Baby Tate – Lollipop

On “Lollipop,” Baby Tate wants “more, more, more, more, more, more.” And she brought just enough energy to have fans dancing along to this bop, coupled with the right amount of catchiness to make fans hit replay that one more time. In the song, Tate sings about wanting a lover to devote time, attention and affection to her. Why? Well, cause she’s greedy.

Maybe I’m greedy, I don’t care / ‘Cause I want somebody who I know will always be there / Maybe I’m needy, that’s okay / ‘Cause I got desires and I just can’t make ’em go away,” she sings in the first verse, going on to say that once she gets the hook in, she likes it to stay that way.

“If I let you lick the lollipop / Then you bet not let it drop down to the floor / If you crushin’ on me, never stop / Once I give it to you, boy, I need some more,” she sings in the chorus of the track she penned with producer Cirkut.

Rock that ship, boy, sail my boat / I’m floating, slow motion (Yeah) / I’ll catch it, boy, I’m wide open (Yeah) / You rocking (Oh), I’m rolling (Yeah) / I’ll hold the door but it’s closing,” she raps in the chorus, the twinkling pop-driven nature of the beat lending it a memorable energy.

“Lollipop” is part of her EP Baby Tate Presents – Sexploration: The Musical (2023), which includes other tracks like “Wig,” “Grip,” and “Jersey.”

The accompanying visuals sees the rapper dancing with a couple of dancers all dressed in pink outfits. The sweet choreography was one of the things that was highly praised by fans.

Since she debuted under the name Yung Baby Tate in 2015, she has been known for making positive sexual messages in her songs. She lists Nicki Minaj, Migos, Future, Gucci Mane, and her mother Dionne Farris as influences. She first garnered significant attention when her “I Am” featuring Flo Mili gained some success.

After signing with Issa Rae’s record label Raedio in 2020, she released two singles that were featured on the soundtrack of the television series Insecure. Her song “Beckham” was featured in the pilot episode of Euphoria in 2019. In 2021, she signed with Warner Bros, and “Pedi” was released as her first single from a major label. In late 2021, she decided to simplify her name to Baby Tate in order to be more marketable.

In 2022, Baby Tate toured as an opening act with Charli XCX on the North American leg of her “Crash Tour.”
