Bella Poarch & Lauv – Crush

Bella Poarch and Lauv have a “crush” in their latest single and they went all High School Musical Sharpay Evans in the music video. Yes, I mean that the pink flowed freely. The song, produced by Alex Hope, was written by Poarch, Lauv, Hope, and Annika Bennett and is about the nervous feelings we get when we have a crush on someone.

I never wanna get you alone (Hmm) / I’m scared of even standin’ too close, babe (Yeah) / Get nervous when you light up my phone / But I like it/Yeah, I like it,” she sings in the first verse of the cheery pop song.

Tell me you’re nervous when we say goodnight / Am I on your mind like you’re on my mind? / Tell me you’re nervous, lookin’ in my eyes / Am I on your mind like you’re on my mind?” she and Lauv sing in the notable bridge, with the catchy chorus serving as the icing on the cake for the song.

“Crush” is like the song you want to be singing when you’ve got a crush and you don’t want to know that person on an intimate level so you don’t destroy the “crush.” Basically, it’s loving the feeling of crushing on someone and never wanting it to stop or even grow into something else.

Before announcing the song, Poarch first teased the single on TikTok, where she has already amassed millions of followers. It was followed by the release of the single’s cover art, which sees the singer sitting on her bed, looking cute and surrounded by all kinds of adorable things – did you spot the goat, the flamingo, and the cat? I did too!

Prior to the single’s release on September 15, Poarch shared that she’s in her new era, hinting at an upcoming project following 2022’s Dolls, which spurned the hit single, “Build A Bitch.”

The accompanying Roxana Baldovin-directed music video sees Poarch having a great time with her girls, and let’s not talk about the pink or the Lauv-infested pool.

After serving in the United States Navy from 2017 to 2020, Poarch started posting videos on TikTok, going viral with a video of herself lip-syncing to the song “M to the B” by British rapper Millie B. This made her the most followed contributor from the Philippines and the third most followed account on the platform as of the time of this writing.

In 2021, she signed a record deal with Warner Records. The following May, she released her debut single, “Build A Bitch,” which she says is about her experiences being bullied as a child. “Growing up, I used to get bullied and stuff … I wanted my first song to have a good meaning to it and to help a lot of people just to be like, more confident about themselves.”
