Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are back with yet another collaboration together. This time a cover of The Judds song “Love Is Alive” for the forthcoming album A Tribute to the Judds.
“The Judds are one of the greatest country acts of our lifetime. 80s country music is my favorite decade, and I’ve been singing Judd songs for as long as I can remember,” Shelton said in a statement, adding, “‘Love Is Alive’ was on their first album, and we wanted to stick pretty close to the original version and Gwen just nails the vocal. We’re thrilled to be part of this tribute album.”
Even though Stefani’s roots come from the ska and reggae world, the former No Doubt frontwoman has always been a fan of the group. “I have always admired the Judds and I am so thrilled to be part of this album. ‘Love Is Alive’ is an iconic track and performing the song with Blake is a perfect way to honor their timeless discography,” she shared.
Just like the original version, Stefani’s vocals are breathtaking and showcase her raw talent without a heavy production. Proving to be the perfect blend, Shelton provides backing vocals and complements the song nicely.
The married couple, who tied the knot in the summer of 2021, first recorded music together for Shelton’s 2016 album If I’m Honest on the track “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.” The following year, the country singer repaid the favor when he would feature on the title track of Stefani’s Christmas album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas. In 2020 and 2021, the pair duetted on the platinum-selling singles “Nobody But You” and “Happy Anywhere.”
Following a bunch of collaborations, Stefani released her first solo single in over two years, “True Babe,” which heard the music powerhouse return to her pop/rock roots. Fans wait patiently for her fifth solo studio album, which she is currently working on.
Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Jelly Roll, K. Michelle, and Ashley McBryde are among the other artists who have recorded their own renditions for the A Tribute to the Judds album, due October 27.
