After getting fans hooked on the dance track by performing it live a couple times, Becky Hill has finally decided to put us out of our misery by releasing “Disconnect.” The drum ‘n’ bass song is about taking a moment from the constant struggles of life to unwind.
“I ain’t gonna lie to you/Life’s been fuckin’ life-in’ /And I need a night or two / To get me unwindin’,” she sings in the song’s opening verse, adding that she needs to get out of the cycle of her everyday existence. The high-energy track is perfect for getting on the dancefloor and forgetting about any upcoming deadlines. All you need to do is to take the song’s advice and disconnect.
Hill wrote the song alongside longtime collaborator Karen Poole and drum ‘n’ bass artist Emily Makis, with “absolute legends” Chase & Status producing the track. This marks Hill’s first single release in a year since 2022’s “Side Effects.”
Speaking via a press release, Hill said: “A decade on from “Afterglow” and I honestly didn’t think that I’d be able to do it again, but I have never been more excited about a drum ‘n’ bass tune like I am about “Disconnect”. It’s a true dance floor record that toes the line between the rave and the radio, and to be working with the likes of Chase & Status, who I have dreamed of working with since I was a teenager, is a real moment for me. It’s been going off at festivals over the last few months and I can’t wait for everyone to have it for themselves. I’m so proud of this one.”
She also gushed about her return to music with the new dance floor-worthy single on Instagram, writing, “Never been so excited for a song to come out as I have been with DISCONNECT! A teenage dream of mine to work with the absolute legends @chaseandstatus & I’m so glad this was the tune to do it!”
Continuing on, she sweetly acknowledged her co-writers on the track, adding, “After a long day of struggles we finally found the banger we were tryna write! i hope u love it as much as i do, LOVE TO MY DNB CREW. She’s back baby!”
The pop icon met Chase & Status at the Big Weekend in Coventry last year. She shared about the experience during an interview with BBC Radio 1. “They’re incredible in the studio, they’re one of the godfathers of drum ‘n’ bass and the fore frontrunners and pushers of the scene, and it has been a massive honor to be in the studio with them,” she said.
