Come on barbie, let’s go party… under the disco lights where we’ll be spending the summer grooving to yet another pop gem from Dua Lipa. This time let’s “dance the night away” to her catchy new lead single off the upcoming Barbie movie soundtrack.
A snippet of the track plays over the movie trailer where we can look forward to Barbie and Ken having the “best day ever” in Barbie Land, where everything is perfect, well kind of. (Barbie has flat feet!)
Regardless of if you love (or hate) Barbie, writer/director/executive producer Greta Gerwig and team insist this movie is for you. I’ll add that if you love a disco-laced track from Lipa, it’s a match made in heaven. Even if your arms are actually made of plastic, they will be placed in the upright position, moving side to side to the infectious beat that is “Dance the Night.” It helps that Mark Ronson co-produced. Lipa could downright re-release Future Nostalgia with this single as a bonus track, and her fans (myself included) would go wild.
“Watch me dance, dance the night away / My hеart could be burnin’, but you won’t see it on my face / Watch me dancе, dance the night away (Uh-huh) / I’ll still keep the party runnin’, not one hair out of place,” Lipa sings during the catchy chorus.
Not to mention that Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid isn’t the only mermaid being released into theaters this summer. Lipa makes her first major acting role (this Barbie is a mermaid!) and the early buzz is that fans want to be part of her world.
This Barbie also made a music video that’s as sparkly as the “diamonds under [her] eyes.” Lipa is “perfect” in her very own Barbie world, complete with clothing with razzle-dazzle (this Barbie wears Versace!), a pink convertible, and she dances atop a massive pink Barbie shoe. It’s everything a Barbie girl dreams of, though we are going to need another disco ball.
Barbie: The Album has been executive produced by Mark Ronson and Greta Gerwig and will feature other high-profile stars including Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, Karol G, Lizzo, and even Ryan Gosling, who has been cast to play Ken. The soundtrack will be released on the same day as Barbie: The Movie, which hits theaters on July 21. While we wait patiently, let’s just stream the hell out of “Dance The Night” as we prepare for what is going to be an iconic movie.
