Rising pop star BEKA shines a light on ADHD through the liberating anthem “Tears.”
Based on real-life events, London-based singer-songwriter is fastly becoming your one to watch as she goes from hit to hit, and “Tears” is no exception. Capturing the feelings of learning her recent diagnosis represented via the catharsis lyrism, we’re presented through the juxtaposition of ’80s-inspired production that shows off the true feelings. One that shouldn’t be ignored and one to be taken in as BEKA tells her listeners how free she is – driven by power chords and thumping vocals. Continuing to empower herself and the people around her, BEKA moves a mask of fright and liberates us to accept others of the world.Â
As we continue to get to know BEKA through the fourth walls of music, the latest newcomer to music explains the backbone of her inspiration.“I was in a session feeling a familiar overwhelm and internal chaos, so I took a moment to step out, make some tea and then started to cry. I was so overcome by how often I felt like a whirlwind, unable to be ‘an adult’ bringing a little trail of chaos to ‘everyone’ and I felt done with being like that. I’d been running against this same wall for some time and it led me to ask some questions about myself,” she said in her press release.
“This process led me to the most profound moment of my adult life, as I learned I am neurodivergent and have ADHD. This moment came as a huge relief, suddenly realizing that so many of those internal battles were actually symptoms. It made me think about the tears that follow chaos, and how they feel acutely comforting as they’re a soft reminder that, at worst… you can still feel. And if you’re feeling, you’re still alive, and if you’re still alive then you still have something to give to the world,” BEKA continued.
Accompanied by the official video, BEKA perfectly portrays the arching theme of “Tears” as you see her blaze through the night, hinted by the euphoric backdrop of nostalgic colors and disco beams. Dancing the night away, viewers, are visually shown a tale of freedom.Â
Proved to have broken through last year and following the release of her second EP, Your Skin, it’s no surprise that with her first release of 2023 enjoying the rays of new music, BEKA is one step ahead as she prepares for what is next.
