Nina Nesbitt is a complete mood in her new single “Life’s a Bitch (L.A.B).” This is the singer songwriter’s second single in 2021 following up on “Summer Fling” in July. The new track was written by Nesbitt and Swedish production duo Jack & Coke (Charli XCX and Carly Rae Jepsen) and is reminiscent of a perfect ’80s alt-pop song. Nesbitt sings “I don’t let it get me down / Life’s like a bitch, I hate her but I love her / Life is good until it’s not.”
In a press release, Nesbitt says, “’Life’s a Bitch’ is an ‘80s inspired, post 2020, driving your car through a tunnel at night song. A ‘dancing while crying, and smiling through the tears’ moment. It’s about the unpredictability of life, the ups and downs, being your own worst enemy and your own best friend. The chorus is an empowering mantra for powering through the turbulence of life.” And we think that’s the perfect description for it.
In the accompanying music video, a rundown bloody Nesbitt acts as her alter ego reminding us that our dark side needs to be embraced to live completely as ourselves. The video was written and directed in collaboration with Wolf James who skillfully blends comedy and horror. The visually pleasing video is full of deeper meanings that go along perfectly with the song.
From Nesbitt, we can expect even more new music coming very soon and she’s definitely off to a great start with “Life’s a Bitch” and “Summer Fling.” Those two releases with strong melodies, an ’80s pop feel, and Nesbitt’s beautiful vocals have us ready to hear what’s next for her.
