With the world opening up bit by bit, Tommy Genesis has picked the perfect time to launch her new single, “a woman is a god,” as it demands to be played all summer long at any given chance. Hot from releasing her comeback single “peppermint,” the rapper is giving everything fans want by releasing yet another banger, one in particular that will be circling around in your head for DAYS, whether you like it or not.
The 2-minute-58-second track features a very repetitive chorus — “If a man is a man / If a man is a man / If a man is a man / Then a woman, a woman is a god” — over a bouncy production that gives off a very ’90s club vibe. Known for their Ibiza residencies, it makes total sense that this single was produced by The Martinez Brothers. As said within the lyrics, this song is a smash!
Genesis’s debut self-titled album dropped in November 2018 and put the self-proclaimed “fetish rapper” on the map. The LP included fiery collabs with Charli XCX and Empress Of and gained her a loyal cult following. After being absent from the music scene in the past year, Genesis has announced her highly anticipated sophomore album, goldilocks x. The LP is set to be released on Sept. 10 via Downtown Records and will consist of 12 tracks. If “peppermint” and “a woman is a god” is any indication of what this upcoming era is going to be like, then we’re all in for a treat.
“Goldilocks is that feeling when things feel ‘just right,'” Genesis expressed in her press release. “Like you’re entering a space that makes sense, you just can’t put your finger on why but it just does. You don’t know why you like it but you do. The X is the unknown factor, the experimental element, the punk.”
