Montana Tucker, you know her.
With 7.4 million followers on TikTok, and over 147 million likes on the platform, it goes without saying that Tucker is an online sensation. As a dancer, she has shared the stage with Ciara and Lil Wayne and even appeared in a commercial with her idol Jennifer Lopez.
While most may have gotten to know her as a dancer, she is ready to continue to showcase her talent as a singer too. After a string of singles, EUPHORIA. can exclusively announce that Tucker has signed a deal with Universal Music Group and has big plans for the future. Her latest single, “Be Myself,” features LGBTQ+ icon Todrick Hall and will serve as the anthem for Zumba’s Pride Campaign. Not only that, each video made to the song with hashtag #BeMyselfChallenge will garner a $1 donation to It Gets Better organization.
With all that going on, Tucker also announced she will create a music and dance program with Miami Jewish Health that will incorporate movement and brain chemistry to boost the wellbeing of those with cognitive impairment.
In the middle of her busy schedule, EUPHORIA. got the chance to talk to Tucker ahead of the song’s release to discuss her uplifting new single and all the things she has in store for 2021.
How long ago did you write “Be Myself,” and what inspired you to write it?
I actually wrote “Be Myself” with my friend Justin Jesso during the pandemic. I have always wanted to write a song about staying true to who you are and being proud of who you are. Nowadays, it’s hard not to compare yourself to others, so I think a song/message like this is really important.
What made you want to team up with Todrick Hall? Did you always imagine the song to have a feature on it?
I have always admired Todrick in so many ways, and I’ve been lucky enough to get to know him as a friend. We had filmed a bunch of videos together before I wrote “Be Myself,” and, initially, it was written for just me. After listening to it repeatedly, I felt this song would really relate to the LGBTQ+ community, and there was no one else that came to my mind besides Todrick. I sent it over to him, and he loved it and recorded his parts, and just completely took it to a whole new level. I still get chills every time I hear his part come on!
How does it feel to have a song that will feature as Zumba’s anthem for their PRIDE campaign?
It has honestly been a dream come true. Zumba is the most incredible company to work with, and I absolutely love everything they stand for. To see videos of their instructors from all over the world dancing to my song and inspired by it has been beyond amazing. Zumba is even donating $1 to every video made to “Be Myself” to the It Gets Better Foundation.
Have you got a message for your LGBTQ+ fans?
Yes! My message is to continue to be PROUD of who you are! I know it hasn’t been easy for many of you, and you have all followed your heart and let love win. I hope this song inspires you all to continue to BE YOURSELF and nobody else !!!
You just signed a deal with Universal — congrats! Does that mean fans can expect a lot more music throughout the year?
Thank you so much! I am so excited! Most people know me from my dancing videos, but I have been a singer long before! This song means so much to me, and I think it will truly showcase me as an artist and who I really am. I can’t wait to continue releasing music!
You’ve danced for a whole range of high-profile stars. Is there anyone else with who you would love to share the stage with?
I got to do a video with my idol, Jennifer Lopez, but it would be the ultimate dream to share the stage with her to sing and dance together!
Tell us more about your music and dance program. How is that going?
It is coming along great! We have meetings coming up about the program that I partnered with Zumba and Dr. Marc Agronin who has been treating my grandma, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, for over 10 years. I’m so honored to work on something so special that is so close to my heart.
Have you set yourself any goals you want to achieve by the end of the year?
I am the type of person that always sets goals for myself and will never stop until I reach them! By the end of this year, I hope to continue releasing music, and as the world opens up, get out there, meet all of my fans from around the world, and PERFORM!
