In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Surf Mesa teamed up with pop songstress Madison Beer for a sultry little love song that is sure to show up on plenty of sexy playlists this weekend. Beer’s stunningly sweet vocals can instantly turn any tune into something you can’t stop listening to, which is exactly the case with “Carried Away.” Talented songwriter and producer Surf Mesa adds layer upon layer to the song until it builds into a sweeping ballad completely focused on love.
“‘Carried Away’ is about the butterflies in your stomach feeling you get when you meet someone new and fall in love for the very first time,” Surf Mesa said in a press release. “Working with Madison was a dream. I hope this song spreads love during this time when we need it more than ever.”
“When writing songs about love,” Beer added. “I’m often drawn to the ups and downs and heartache that can result from a relationship gone bad. It was refreshing to explore the other side of love for ‘Carried Away,’ the excited nerves you get from meeting someone and falling in love for the first time. I’m so grateful to Surf who made the whole process so fun.”
So not only did Beer and Surf Mesa create this incredibly beautiful love song, but they also have nothing but good things to say about each other — a true collaboration. Their ease with working together comes across in the track and makes us wish and hope and pray that maybe this collaboration won’t be just a one-off project.
And while song love ballads can come off cliche or a bit try-hard, “Carried Away” doesn’t at all. Instead it’s a sweet song about falling in a time where there’s been so much darkness in the world. Sure it’s saccharine, but we need a little bit of that from time to time. Stream “Carried Away” below and check out the lyric video here.
