Loewe Meets Totoro For the Cutest Capsule Collection

Loewe pays tribute to the Studio Ghibli film 'My Neighbor Totoro' with its latest capsule collection.

Who’s cute, cuddly, and a great source of comfort during lockdown? It’s none other than Totoro, the adorable animated character from My Neighbor Totoro, a 1988 film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. With his fuzzy gray and white fur and adorable round eyes, it’s no wonder that Totoro is the star of Loewe’s latest capsule collection.

Loewe announced the ready-to-wear capsule via Instagram through an adorable animated teaser posted on Boxing Day. Aptly named Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro, the collection features characters from the film emblazoned onto leather bags, t-shirts, hoodies, accessories, and more. Totoro isn’t the only character to appear on these new pieces. Also featured are Chibi Totoro, a tiny version of Totoro who follows his bigger counterpart around, and the enchanting soot sprites, a group of tiny, charcoal spirits known as the susuwatari in Japanese.

Photographer Gray Sorrenti assembled a range of colorful, collage-style photos to present the enchanting collection. Using a lush colour palette of bright, sky blues and grassy greens, he photographed models posing with the pieces in natural environments. Sorrenti’s vivid use of color and texture captures the magical spirit of the film, transporting the viewers’ gaze to Totoro’s magical woodland world.

Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson was at the helm of this project. According to Dazed, Anderson described in the press release how My Neighbor Totoro is one of his comfort films: “When I think of a movie that affords me that kind of solace, speaking just as directly to a child as it does to an adult, that movie is My Neighbor Totoro.” Naturally, as the world searches for comfort during these stress-ridden times, his adorable collection is a welcome sight. But who wouldn’t feel better after looking at Totoro’s cute and cuddly face?

To take a look at the cheerful collection for yourself, make sure you check out Loewe’s website or your local Loewe stockist.
