If you’re looking for a fix of quality R&B then look no further, as Alicia Keys and Khalid are here to save the day. The musical superstars come together in this sleek and understated number in which they embrace their vulnerabilities and take back control.
“So Done” is the latest single to be taken from Keys’ upcoming studio album A.L.I.C.I.A following previous tracks like “Perfect Way To Die” and “Good Ass Job” and was produced by Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson. The pair are quite obviously a vocal match made in heaven but what really makes the jam special is the positive message of self-love that is displayed in the lyrics:
“Cause I’m so, so done / Guardin’ my tongue, holdin’ me back / I’m livin the way that I want / ’Cause I’m so, so done / Fighting myself, goin through Hell / I’m livin the way that I want.”
On the track, Keys in an official announcement said “I’m so excited to share So Done with the world. We call it a trance” The energy is inescapable! Collaborating with Khalid on this one was very special. This song is about being done with changing yourself for the sake of others and letting go of anyone else’s ideas of how your life should look.”
The movie-like visuals see the duo give a prom performance, and was directed by Grammy-nominated Andy Hines who has worked with artists from Kanye West to Missy Elliott. Also making an appearance as the main character of the story is American Honey actress Sasha Lane.
Whilst the release date for Keys’ seventh album is currently unknown, the vocalist in a previous interview with Billboard described simultaneously working on her album and memoir More Myself: A Journey as “the best therapy I ever had.”
