RAYE – Natalie Don’t

RAYE has dropped heartbreak-banger “Natalie Don’t,” as the songwriter pleads with another woman not to steal her man.

From Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene,” to Katy B and Jessie Ware’s 2012 “Aaliyah,” and the unforgettable “Becky with the good hair”– there’s something about naming your nemesis in a track, that makes it hit different. Londoner RAYE joins in with “Natalie Don’t,” the latest single from her upcoming project.

A connoisseur of sad songs that slap – RAYE’s currently storming the UK Top-10 with the DJ Regard on “Secrets.” “Natalie Don’t” teams her tear-stained vocals, with a kinetic bass-line and lyrics like: “You know I’m missing the sunrise / behind his eyes he’s thinking of you.” The result is another electropop smash that can sizzle at a socially distanced BBQ, or console you on a downcast-duvet day.

RAYE explains: “I knew immediately when I wrote this song that it had to be a single. The track is about that feeling of panic you have when you know you’re losing someone. The song is beautifully hopeless because you know Natalie will do what she wants regardless.”

An accompanying video directed by Fiona Jane Burgess details RAYE’s guide to getting over your ex. Her tips include indulging in their credit card, throwing away their clothes, and avoiding TikTok and drunk calls. You can’t argue with that.

RAYE is unstoppable this summer, with a Jax Jones and Martin Solveig collaboration “Tequila,” certified silver in the UK. Last year, she teamed up with David Guetta for “Stay,” and no-less co-penned the Beyoncé track “Bigger.”
