For the people who are yet to be introduced to your music, kindly tell us something about yourself!
My name is Joel Corry, and I am a DJ and producer from North London. I have been DJing since I was a teenager and started producing at college.
Was there anything that you planned out to do before setting out in the music industry?
DJing and music have always been my main focus in life. I have done TV work and pursued ambitions in the fitness industry over the years, but I never had a plan B. I was prepared to do whatever it took to make it in the music industry.
You recently released your new track “Head & Heart” featuring the phenomenal MNEK. Congratulations on that! What was the inspiration behind the track?
I love the concept of the track. The conflict between your head and your heart. Everyone can relate to moments in life when you have to decide which path to take. This year has been tough for everyone, and I wanted to bring some positive vibes and give 2020 a proper summer banger.
What was the creative process like with the track and did you face any challenges during the making of the song?
I was working on “Head & Heart” for almost 9 months. I had the production pretty much done, but it needed a new vocal and was missing a pre-chorus. The demo fell into MNEK’s hands (thank God). MNEK loved the song and delivered the perfect vocal, and also wrote the missing section. I feel very lucky to be working with MNEK and I couldn’t be happier with the record.
You have gained more than 7.5 Million active monthly listeners on your Spotify Channel and one of your tracks “Sorry” received more than 100 Million streams. How does it feel to know that your music has such a global influence?
“Sorry” was my breakthrough record and will always be very special to me. I feel proud of everything “Sorry” has achieved. It was a cover of a UK Garage classic, and it makes me so happy to see the original writers enjoying the success too. The stats are awesome, but I get the most satisfaction from seeing people connecting with my music around the world.
You started Djing when you were merely a teenager. You’ve been in this industry for more than ten years now. What is the biggest lesson that you took away on this journey?
Believe in yourself, be prepared to work as hard as possible and for free, and always be polite to everyone you meet. Belief, hard work, and good manners are key to success in any field.
Is there anything that the fans can expect from your forthcoming projects?
I have been in a good creative space during lockdown. I am lucky to now be in a position where I can collaborate with some amazing songwriters and artists. I am also aiming to release some club tracks this year. Lots of exciting stuff in the pipeline, watch this space!
Lastly, is there any message that you would like to convey to your fans from all around the world?
Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years. I am so grateful that I now have this platform for my music and I am able to pursue my dreams. I hope my new single “Head & Heart” with MNEK brings you lots of good times and memories this summer!
