HAIM – Don’t Wanna

HAIM’s new tracks have a nostalgic sound. The band has said that their upcoming album, Women In Music Part Three, is their favorite yet, and so far the releases have been pop-rock perfection.

Stripped back with an extra shot of country vibes, their latest single “Don’t Wanna” has that familiar HAIM sister drum beat with soft guitar and a cool, easy tune.

Summing up the conflicted feelings at the breaking point in a relationship, HAIM’s lyrics on “Don’t Wanna” are straightforward and relatable: “I don’t think it’s too late/I don’t wanna give up on you.”

The track has a hometown feeling with a plucky electric guitar bringing some pep to the subject of a relationship on the ropes. HAIM somehow bottle up a portion of their electric energy and pump it into their tunes, and “Don’t Wanna” is no exception.

Although the album launch has been pushed back for coronavirus related reasons, HAIM has utilized their time in lockdown to host weekly dance classes to teach the routines from some of their music videos. Stepping in sync to “Don’t Wanna” in an Instagram video, the trio pull off making some line dancing moves look cool. If this track is anything to go by, Women in Music Part Three is set to be a well-timed pick-me-up.

If you can’t get enough of HAIM’s new tune, the sisters have performed live quarantine versions for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and James Corden’s Late Late Show, which are both available to watch on YouTube.
