Oh Wonder – Happy

Start as you mean to go on. That’s the motto Oh Wonder seem to be bringing into 2020 with their new song “Happy.”

“Happy” is London-based duo Oh Wonder’s fourth release from their upcoming third album, No One Else Can Wear Your Crown, and follows the theme of empowerment that flows through the record.

The tune begins with a soft, echoing intro from Josephine before she’s joined by longtime collaborator and partner, Anthony, in their typical fashion of gently harmonising vocals. Verses feature raindrop piano notes whilst the chorus is adorned with uplifting violins. Like all Oh Wonder songs, the more you listen to it, the more it sticks in your heart and your head.

The band teased the new song on social media with some beautiful, intimate visuals and snippets of audio outtakes captured during the recording process.

“Happy” was actually inspired by Anthony’s ex girlfriend, and details the triumphant feeling of accepting that your past love has moved on with somebody new – but you’re actually ok with it. In fact, you’re more than ok with it; you’re happy to see them happy, because you’re happy within yourself. And we stan emotional progress.

The song is sure to become a quiet anthem for anyone who has achieved the emotional maturity to wish their ex well.

“Never thought I’d be happy to see you with somebody new / Never thought I’d be happy to see you do the things we do / With somebody else / It’s like you’re more yourself”

Written and self-produced in their home studio, the song is part of the upcoming 10-track album, which draws on a whole range of emotions and experiences. Set for release on February 7, Oh Wonder will embark on a UK, EU and US tour throughout March and April.
