“Nothing hurts like being blindsided by love,” Oh Wonder sing on “I Wish I Never Met You.” Harmonizing throughout the beautiful, heartbreaking, yet endlessly relatable new tune in their trademark style, I find myself hitting repeat again and again.
“You left me with these issues that I just can’t seem to shake / I wish I never met you / But it’s a little too late.”
Written as a reflection on the emotional damage caused by past lovers, the band posted on Instagram earlier this week with a tease of the new song: “To all my cheating ex-boyfriends: I WISH I NEVER MET YOU. Love, Josephine x”
The song is somewhat reminiscent of Oh Wonder’s first, eponymous album production-wise. Featuring the duo’s trademark soft, angelic vocals, gentle piano, crescendoing violins, and heart-rendering lyrics, “I Wish I Never Met You” is a masterclass in songwriting.
Hungry fans have truly been fed today. Alongside the new track, the duo has also announced their eagerly anticipated third album, No One Else Can Wear Your Crown, set for release in February 2020. To add the cherry on the cake, the first installment of international dates for the “Wear Your Crown Tour” has also been released. Oh Wonder will hit up a bunch of cities in North America, the U.K., and Europe during March to April next year to bring their sparkling talent to thousands around the world.
“I Wish I Never Met You” is the third song from Oh Wonder’s forthcoming No One Else Can Wear Your Crown, following this year’s “Hallelujah” and “Better Now.”
