British singer-songwriter, Mathilda Homer, has shared a new track called “Baby Blue Eyes”.
The honey-textured vocals Mathilda is known for are ever-present on the delicate new track. Borne out of a daydream and captured on her phone’s notes app, “Baby Blue Eyes” imagines the life Mathilda would have if she had a baby with her lover.
“I was flicking through one day in a session and came across a list of baby names,” Mathilda Homerexplains. “I wanted to write a song that describes exactly that feeling of being in love and the processes I go through, imagining what our baby would look like.”
The single is Mathilda’s first release since her Sunny Like You EP in February. Her classic soulful, jazzy style has been no doubt inspired by her formative years listening to the likes of Nina Simone, Eva Cassidy and Leonard Cohen. This year, she’s played live at BTS Hyde Park and All Points East festivals, as well as supporting Ady Suleiman and Oscar Jerome.
The stunning track was released alongside a video directed by Louis Lincoln-Bottcher, which brings Mathilda’s wondering lyricism to life perfectly. Watch it below.
