Elina is a Swedish musician who first got her start as a songwriter, writing hit songs for artists like Zara Larsson, Astrid S, and Maroon 5’s collaboration with SZA for “What Lovers Do.” She began to hone her own artistry in 2018 when she decided to become an artist herself, and has received over 60 million Spotify streams with her singles “Wild Enough,” “Here With Me.”
Elina released her debut EP this spring and is gearing up for her second EP, due out soon. She just released the single as a teaser from her upcoming sophomore EP with “Free,” which is a heart-tugging song about a past love. She explains that she had a “bittersweet feeling writing ‘Free.’ We tend to live our lives in all places but the present, chasing after everything we don’t have and forgetting what’s right in front of our eyes. The story of the song is about losing yourself in the memories of a love that has ended, wishing you’d seen the beauty of it while it was still yours. Love is never easy or flawless, but you had a true version of it. In the rearview mirror you’re looking back at it with different eyes knowing that being with this person was the greatest freedom of all.”
