London songstress Cat Burns shares an exclusively curated playlist for EUPHORIA featuring some of her favourite songs from women she admires in celebration of her empowering new tune, “Fuckboy”.
“‘Fuckboy” isn’t actually a diss track, it’s more of an observation,” Cat tells us. “From Instagram to real life there are boys who act like that and mess girls around, so I just wanted to politely call them out.”
1) Ariana Grande – thank u, next
This song was so raw, honest and vulnerable it really made me wanna continue making honest real music about what I’ve seen or experienced!
2) Beyonce – Ring Off
This song holds a big place in my heart as I really admire my mother and what she did for myself and my sister, I love the message and would love to write a song like that for my mum.
3) Tori Kelly – All In My Head
I’ve loved this song since I was honestly 12. I’ve cried to this song multiple times over boys who didn’t like me back, so I have a really strong relationship with it and just love how relatable and honest it is!
4) Tori Kelly – Dear No One
Again I’ve loved this song ever since it came out, she’s being vulnerable and real which is something I want to continue doing with my music.
5) Aretha Franklin – Until You Come Back To Me (Thats What I’m Gonna Do)
I love how relaxed the production is and how her voice really takes you on a journey.
6) Anita Baker – Angel
Her voice is so angelic, she makes all the notes sound easy and effortless, which is something that I really try to do when I sing.
7) Rihanna – Needed Me
The production is sick on this song! Rihanna has always been the epitome of girl power and this song showed that.
8) Indie Arie – I Am Not My Hair
The lyrics really resonated with me growing up, it really taught me to love my natural hair and also realise that I could whatever I wanted with it!
9) Kim Burrell – Falling In Love With You
I’m a massive lover of gospel and Kim Burrell’s gift is indescribable when i listen to this song It forces me to push myself melodically and I love it.
10) Le’Andria Johnson – Better Days
As I said before I love gospel music and how it can heal you when you are feeling low and this song does just that! Whenever I feel lost or down it really helps me.
