Lana Del Rey – Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me

“Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me – but I have it” is the latest track to emerge from her forthcoming LP Norman Fucking Rockwell.  The new track is a nostalgic love letter to her old self.

As recently promised, Lana Del Rey has released her newest single initially titled “Sylvia Plath” now named “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it.” Making the announcement via Instagram, the third track follows Venice Bitch and Mariners Apartment Complex that were released last year for her album that is yet to have an official release date.

Produced by Jack Antonoff, who has worked with the likes of Taylor Swift and Lorde; Lana unveils her inner Sylvia Plath who has been a known source for a lot of her inspiration because of her stark, intense confessional poetry and literature. Though the lyrics don’t take on new territory, with Lana using her quintessentially poetic lyricism “I had fifteen-year dances / Church basement romances, yeah, I’ve cried / Spilling my guts with the Bowery Bums / Is the only love I’ve ever known / Except for the stage, which I also call home, when I’m not”

Despite being a soft, piano-driven ballad; the contents are a lot heavier, addressing Lana’s alcoholism which she has struggled with since her adolescence, telling NME in a 2012 interview “I was a big drinker at the time. I would drink every day. I would drink alone. I thought the whole concept was so fucking cool.”

But before that album emerges, Lana Del Rey recently revealed in typical Lana fashion that she finished writing a book of poetry, tentatively titled Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. “I think I’m just going to self-publish it and put it out beforehand. It’s kind of random. Which is kind of another one of those things I just want out there just for me,” she previously said.

“I literally might just drop these little books off at some bookstores in Silverlake and beg them to sell them. It’s been really cool for me ‘cause I was having a little bit of writers’ block with the music last Fall and so I just sat down to write some words without music and I realized there was just a couple of things I wanted to say through some poems, which is funny. I feel like I’m in the 19th Century.”
