Chinah are a three piece from Copenhagen, and consists of Fine, Simon and Simon. They pride themselves on their unique blend of electronic music with a sophisticated pop twist, and they certainly haven’t disappointed with their single “Even Love.”
Fine’s vocals are whimsical, and hover magically above the sharp, sleek percussion that runs throughout this track. They have an almost R&B tone, but at the same time sound similar to the feminine tones of Electric Youth. They provide a true sophistication to this track, and backed by the slick guitar and rhythm, echo back to the power women of the 80s, such as Annie Lenox. It is always a pleasure to hear a strong female front of a band, combined with the lyrics of “Even Love,” which tell a story of trying to be strong when a relationship is falling apart. There’s an underlying sense of empowerment in this song.
Chinah have used minimal instruments in this track, keeping it basic and neat, which comes off as really effective when mixed with the dulcet vocals of Fine. You could say that they’re “smart” with their sounds, knowing just where to place an echoing piano chord to make sure it’s really effective in the song. The way the instruments have been played creates a real sense of space in the track, with layers that flow in and out of one another. “Even Love” is a simply magical track.
