Bryde – Honey

This tightly wound rock bruiser from London-based Bryde, AKA Sarah Howells, packs a punch and passes quickly. She delivers gut-wrenching lines with a sold precision: “You’re like a bad word, I think I misheard, I’m like the slow dance, you never learned.” Simply put, “Honey” is viscous.

Much like its namesake, it holds together. A solid skeleton of heavy rhythm merges with the melody. The melody has its own muscle composed of rhythm guitar, with sparing solos. The song possesses a timeless drive that skillfully enthralls. Howells’ voice is not a traditional powerhouse; its melancholy wail would not be out of place in a country crooner or indie pop ballad. Nevertheless, she holds her own with enough strength to belt it over an electric guitar.

Bryde heads out on a UK tour this autumn with the release of her forthcoming EP set for November.
