Prides – Are You Ready

Glasgow band Prides put down their synths and pick up their guitars in new single “Are You Ready,” the second single – after comeback track “Rome” earlier this year – to follow since the release of the trio-turned-duo’s 2015 debut album, The Way Back Up.

“Are You Ready” doesn’t abandon their signature 80s inspired throbbing synth traditions altogether but it does have a lighter and more analogue core as Stewart Brock (vocals/keyboards) and Callum Wiseman (keyboards/guitar) grow towards a guitar/drum led sound, accented by polished electronic flickers.

And it’s no more obvious than at the beginning with some intricate fretwork from Wiseman before Brock’s recognisable vocals forlornly enter. It doesn’t take long for the track to burst into life with the characteristically assuming chorus acting as a call-to-arms “Lyrically it’s about forgiveness. It’s about those long nights you stay awake trying to figure out what you want, talking till the early hours, drinking too much, smoking too much, thinking too much. Saying the wrong thing, saying the right thing, saying anything.”

With this new directions comes word of Prides’ much-anticipated sophomore album expected some time next year alongside some October tour dates.
