Zuzu – Get Off

Ever feel like you want the world to stop so you can get off? Liverpool newcomer Zuzu sings of such frustrations as she channels The Strypes and Courtney Barnett with debut offering “Get Off,” the latter of which Zuzu recently opened for.

When I first hit play the opening chords of the track reminded me so much of retro rock and roll twang in “What A Shame” by Irish youngsters The Strypes. As the vocals kick in you’d be forgiven for thinking “Get Off” is one of rising Aussie star Barnett’s tracks with the biting angst lazily draped over every word in style, albeit it with a Scouse twang. It’s a fitting delivery for lyrics expressing a decidedly blasé apathy and no-nonsense attitude towards a world, or perhaps specific individuals, she’d rather escape: “Cross my heart and hope to die. I swear you’re sticking needles in my eyes, oh please won’t you just stop pushing the pins in.”

The official single release follows impressive live outings at The Great Escape, Live At Leeds, Truck Festival and Tramlines.
