Castlecomer – Escapism

“The fountain of youth is trickling down, washing me out, escaping my zone.”

Since their formation, Castlecomer’s music has been wildly fueled by their passion for what they do, and it has proven effective. After many years of independent management and touring, they have begun selling out an increasing number of shows. Following the success of their comeback single “Fire Alarm,” they have most recently released a music video for their latest single, “Escapism.”

Escapism, by its very definition, represents the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy. Definitely something we are all guilty of. A reflection of our humanly need to find alternative methods to escape mundane routines, this upbeat anthem very well shows off the unique essence of Castlecomer; quirky lyrics and rhythmic guitar strums tied together with electric vocal harmonies, well infecting listeners with happiness, fun and optimism all at once. The bridge especially, where the vocals and drums are isolated, sounds like something you’d hear at a retro dance party, before everyone starts jumping and shaking their heads along to the buoyant chorus.

Such an amazing track requires no complication in its visual presentation. Simply feature the band performing the track and enjoying themselves, rocking out in front of spotlight, slap on a black & white filter and the video would have served its aesthetic purpose.

“Escapism” and “Fire Alarm” marks their comeback following a hiatus after parting ways with their record label and family members falling sick. If Castlecomer has taught us anything today, it is that effort and determination goes a long way. Despite facing many obstacles, they have pulled through, stronger than ever and we can’t wait to hear more from them.
