“All the songs I write are about you, you’re not about me anymore.”
In the vast land of dreampop, Anna of the North have emerged with a unique take on the growing genre with “The Dreamer.” The project is actually a collaboration of Norwegian singer Anna Lotterud and producer Brady Daniell-Smith out of New Zealand. The talented duo is currently living in Oslo, Norway working on their shimmery alt-pop.
The track marks their third tune that has been shared so far. “The Dreamer” stands out from a lot of electro-fueled music by putting an emphasis on Lotterud’s soaring vocals (imagine listening to CHVRCHES with the vocal booster equalizer on). The lyrics, penned by Daniell-Smith in this case, are direct and unafraid, saying “it’s not about you anymore.” Running underneath the charged words is a pulse filled with subtle details that create a complete package. It is this kind of production that makes the song easy to imagine being played live. “The Dreamer” has an icy tone, fitting for its Oslo origins, and a tune that will keep you coming back for more.
As for the near future of Anna of the North, they’ll be ditching the DIY setting to hit the studio soon.
