Self-professed “heart palpitator” Brando Kress independently released his debut EP under the Chateau d’If moniker. The Phoenix-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter explained his French alter-ego as being the “literal translation of the ‘Castle of If’ or ‘Castle of Possibility.'”
And his debut offering, Possibilities, is full of just that. The five-track EP features a variety of ambient sounds paired with smart, metaphorical lyrics. The collection’s opening track, “Infinite” has a very soothing start, that later builds into a glorious medley of reverberating synths and bass.
A highlight off Possibilities is definitely lead single, “Anti-Hero.” This track, in particular, faces a double release today, as the music video premiered earlier today on Pancakes & Whiskey. “Anti-Hero” is dream-pop in its purest form, filled with intense emotion and serves as the perfect introduction to the talented producer.
“Everything from the simple album art to the vast expanse of soundscape filling all songs is exploring that realm of possibility. You’re able to smile, dance, cry, extrovert and introvert through every song.”
If you’re in the NYC-area, be sure to check out Chateau d’If’s music video screening at Rockwood Music Hall. Entry is only $10, and all drinks are only $5!
