Hinds – Garden

The Madrid-based Hinds have immediately shot up in popularity over the past year and its pretty easy to see why. They make breezy indie pop songs that exude a sort of simple joy – beautiful revelry in the pursuit of creating uncomplicated music fit for feeling good. With decidedly lo-fi production and catchy melodies, they hearken back to a time before the line between indie and the mainstream were so completely blurred. Their latest single, future debut album opener “Garden,” is no different.

Despite their press statement stating that “… we thought this album would be all party and cheerfulness but, SURPRISE. it’s not!!!!! haha. [sic],” “Garden” is an exuberant cool down for the last few days of summer. Musically, it follows in the basic tenets of garage rock with a simple, yet driving chord progression and gentle percussion before kicking it up a notch for the chorus. However, lyrically there is a dark undercurrent: “How many you have tucked away in your smile? You brought a star to be here.” It’s all shambolic in the most glorious fashion.

Hinds are gearing up for a massive US tour with the likes of Glass Animals and Public Television Access. Check out the dates below:
