“I want you to poison me. Please don’t say no.”
Do you ever come across a new song and think “Oh my gosh, this is SO GOOD”? The tune just pumps throughout your body, making you feel euphoric, as if you could dance to it all night long. Well, this is the exact feeling I got when I first heard Girl Friend’s latest song “Poison.”
Coming from Manchester, England, this four-piece group is making bodies groove to a funky, disco-pop sound. Mimicking the styles of bands like Chromeo, Miami Horror, and Passion Pit, there is no doubt that Girl Friend will catch the attention of many fans, especially those in the indie-pop scene. They’re the kind of band you can picture at local, summer, music festivals, rocking out to a conglomerate of sweaty festival-goers.
Their latest track, “Poison”, features elements of catchy guitar riffs and electronic synths. An intoxicating falsetto by lead singer, Amory, hooks listeners in for more, as the music heightens up for his catchy chorus. The low-fi element to his voice contrasts well with the up-beat funk, balancing the song out with an edgy disco-pop feel, and a smidge of psychedelic charm.
