“And I can’t shake this feeling. All I need is my trust. All this went too far, I can’t find my way back.”
Denai Moore’s voice is really something else. “Elsewhere,” the title track off her debut album, is arresting in it’s use of harmony. Moore’s voice seems to build and build until it fills the song with undeniable emotion. Her affecting vocals are only benefitted by the lyrics of “Elsewhere” which contribute to the overall mournful tone of the track.
“Elsewhere” is reminiscent of another female artist gaining recognition for her sultry tunes, FKA Twigs, even featuring some backing noises that are quite similar to Twig’s “Pendulum.” However, this is not to say that these women are by any means one and the same. Their music has it’s own distinct and separate style and their differing vocals add intrigue to their individual tracks. But, it does seem that there is inspiration being shared between the two of them, and that is pleasant to see- particularly between two talented young female performers.
While Denai Moore has been featured on other artist’s tracks and toured with SBTRKT, it is about time we heard more of her solo ventures. If you liked “Elsewhere” grab her upcoming album of the same name on April 6th.
