Kaiser Chiefs – Falling Awake

Leeds quintet Kaiser Chiefs have been writing indie rock anthems for a decade and a half now. Safe to say their singles have fallen short in terms of chart performance over the past few years but last year’s LP Education, Education, Education & War stated the band’s reliance and desire to not give up. It wasn’t an unheralded triumph but it was a step back towards the glory days.

So I was quite surprised today when I heard the premiere of new track “Falling Awake,” a song that suggests a completely new era for an invigorated band. It’s 80s inspired rock that reminded me somewhat of Editors’ Papillon with some intricate, throbbing synths and an infectious chorus line booming throughout.

Fans will be more than happy to welcome back Ricky Wilson and co as the band conclude their tour with Foo Fighters in South America, returning to the UK for a run of arena shows at the end of the month.
